The Red Deer Food Bank Society (RDFBS) is looking for a Volunteer Services Coordinator to join the organisation. The Red Deer Food Bank supports individuals and families in the community by providing access to nutritious food and healthy living. In addition, it operates a diverse range of social enterprise activities that support its mission of relieving hunger today, preventing hunger tomorrow. The part-time Volunteer Services Coordinator position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and supporting the organisation’s volunteer program. This position ensures volunteers are effectively recruited, screened, trained, scheduled, supported, recognised, and retained. Working collaboratively with the RDFBS Leadership Team, the Volunteer Services Coordinator helps create a positive, inclusive, and meaningful volunteer experience while ensuring volunteer resources are aligned with the operational needs, mission, and values of the organisation. The key duties of the role will include, but are not limited to: * Operational planning to recruit and allocate volunteers based on department requirements, annual events, programs, and organisational objectives. * Building relationships with community organisations, schools, post-secondary institutions, businesses, and other potential sources of volunteers * Representing the organisation at volunteer fairs and community events. * Actively engaging in the volunteer recruitment, selection, and engagement process. * Providing support to volunteers by acting as a primary point of contact, ensuring volunteers receive appropriate supervision, and addressing volunteer concerns, performance issues, and conflicts in a timely, respectful, and professional manner. * Participating in the ongoing development of volunteer resources, procedures, skill development initiatives, and knowledge training relevant to organisational policies, safety requirements, confidentiality expectations, and ethical food banking. * Maintaining regular communication with volunteers regarding organisational updates, opportunities, and activities. * Developing and delivering initiatives that recognise and celebrate volunteer contributions and milestones. * Fostering a welcoming, inclusive, respectful, and team-oriented volunteer culture. * Maintaining accurate and confidential volunteer records. * Tracking volunteer applications, assignments, and hours. * Ensuring volunteers and volunteer activities comply with organisational policies, applicable legislation, and the National Standards of Excellence. Qualifications: * Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Community Development, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered. Skills and experience: * Previous experience coordinating volunteers, employees, community programs, or similar activities, preferably within a food bank, social service, community service, or not-for-profit environment. * Strong organisational and scheduling skills. * Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. * Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. * Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and empathy. * Strong administrative skills and attention to detail. * Comfortable using Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and databases, including volunteer management systems. * Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team. * Must be flexible with the ability to meet organisational needs across days, evenings, and weekends.
