The Senior Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing daily operational activities across the company’s terminals, including Edmonton, Calgary, and New Westminster. This role provides hands-on leadership and support to dispatch, warehouse, drivers, and maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. Working closely with management, safety, sales, and maintenance, the Operations Manager helps maintain high service standards, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the achievement of operational objectives. The successful candidate will be a proactive leader with strong transportation and logistics experience and the ability to manage day-to-day operational challenges across multiple locations. Key Responsibilities 1. Operational Management * Coordinate and oversee daily operations across all company terminals. * Provide day-to-day guidance and support to dispatch, warehouse, and driver teams. * Monitor driver performance, attendance, and compliance with company policies and procedures. * Provide dispatch support as required to maintain efficient operations and customer service. * Review and approve driver timesheets, ensuring accuracy and timely submission. * Provide guidance to warehouse staff regarding proper trailer loading, load distribution, and load securement standards. * Identify and address operational issues, implementing practical solutions to minimize service disruptions. 2. Equipment & Maintenance Coordination * Work closely with shop personnel to coordinate equipment maintenance and availability. * Monitor equipment utilization, condition, and operational readiness across all terminals. * Coordinate with maintenance and safety teams regarding equipment standards, load securement, and damage reporting. * Communicate equipment availability and operational requirements to support efficient planning. * Identify equipment-related concerns and work with the appropriate teams to resolve issues. 3. Financial & Operational Efficiency * Monitor operational expenses and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control costs. * Work with management to support the implementation of cost-reduction initiatives. * Review operational processes and recommend improvements to productivity and resource utilization. * Monitor the effective use of drivers, equipment, and other operational resources. 4. Cross-Department & Customer Coordination * Maintain regular communication with customers regarding operational matters, service requirements, and performance concerns. * Collaborate with the sales team regarding equipment availability, load requirements, and operational capabilities. * Work closely with the safety department to support compliance with transportation regulations, load securement standards, and company safety policies. * Coordinate with maintenance, dispatch, warehouse, and other departments to ensure effective communication and consistent operational practices. * Communicate significant operational concerns to senior management as required. Performance Expectations * Maintain safe, compliant, and efficient daily operations across all terminals. * Provide effective leadership and support to operational teams. * Promote consistent driver conduct, equipment standards, and operational procedures. * Support cost control, productivity, and operational efficiency initiatives. * Maintain strong communication and coordination between departments and customers. * Address operational challenges promptly and implement effective solutions. * Contribute to a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work environment. Qualifications * Previous experience in transportation and logistics operations, preferably in a supervisory or management role. * Strong knowledge of Canadian transportation regulations, safety requirements, and industry practices. * Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. * Experience coordinating drivers, dispatch, warehouse, or maintenance operations. * Experience working with multiple terminals or locations is considered an asset. * Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills. * Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment. * Proficiency with transportation management systems and Microsoft Office applications is an asset. * Ability to balance operational efficiency, safety, and customer service priorities. Work Environment * This position supports operations across multiple company terminals. * Occasional travel between locations may be required. * The role requires flexibility to respond to operational needs and time-sensitive issues.
